Drei Geschwister, 13 Kinder

Princess Diana’s legacy extends beyond her two sons, William and Harry; it also encompasses her three siblings. While her sisters lead mostly private lives, her brother Charles remains in the spotlight due to his romantic escapades. This narrative of familial connection is further complicated by the scandalous history of Diana’s parents’ marriage.

Princess Diana (1961-1997) is especially missed on her upcoming 65th birthday (July 1) not just by her sons Prince William (44) and Prince Harry (41), but also by her three close siblings.

Born on July 1, 1961, in Sandringham, Diana grew up with her two older sisters and one younger brother in Norfolk. In 1975, the family relocated to Althorp, the Spencer family estate in Northamptonshire. Lady Sarah McCorquodale (71), Lady Jane Fellowes (69), and Charles, the 9th Earl Spencer (62), are said to have maintained a close relationship with their nephews Prince William and Prince Harry over the years.

Diana’s Sisters Stay Out of the Public Eye

In stark contrast to their brother, Lady Sarah and Lady Jane have largely withdrawn from public life since their sister’s tragic death. Nevertheless, they attended significant family events, such as the weddings of Prince William and Princess Kate (44) in 2011 and Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan (44) in 2018.

The Spencer sisters were also present at the christenings of Harry and Meghan’s children: the 2019 christening for Prince Archie in Windsor, and Princess Lilibet’s christening in 2023 in Montecito.

Lady Sarah Had a Past Relationship with Charles

Born in 1955 to John, the 8th Earl Spencer (1924-1992), and Frances Shand Kydd (1936-2004), Lady Sarah attended Riddlesworth Hall School in Norfolk and later West Heath School in Kent. Following her education, she worked in London and had a brief relationship with then Prince Charles, reportedly introducing him to her younger sister Diana.

Lady Sarah married Neil McCorquodale in 1980 and has three children: Emily (42), George (41), and Celia (37), who have made her a grandmother seven times.

Lady Jane Married a Queen’s Associate

Born in 1957, Lady Jane attended West Heath School as well. In 1978, she married Robert Fellowes (1941-2024), who served as deputy private secretary to Queen Elizabeth II. (1926-2022). Robert became the Queen’s principal private secretary in 1990.

After Diana’s marriage to Prince Charles in 1981, both Spencer sisters resided in Kensington Palace. Robert Fellowes was subsequently granted a life peerage in 1999, making Jane Baroness Fellowes. Together, they have three children: Laura (45), Alexander (43), and Eleanor (40). Laura is one of the godparents to Princess Charlotte (11), daughter of William and Kate. Lady Jane is also a grandmother.

Charles Spencer Manages the Family Estate

Charles Spencer reportedly had a particularly close bond with his sister Diana. In his 2024 memoir “A Very Private School,” he recounts his experiences with violence and abuse at Maidwell Hall, a prestigious English boarding school. He later attended Eton College and studied Modern History at Oxford.

Diana’s brother has worked as an author and journalist, taking care of the family estate at Althorp since their father’s passing in 1992. He regularly shares updates and photos from the estate on his social media, including nostalgic images of Princess Diana.

The Next Generation of Spencers in the Spotlight

With his first wife, British model Victoria Aitken (61), Charles Spencer has four children: Lady Kitty (35), identical twins Lady Eliza and Lady Amelia (33), and Louis Spencer, Viscount Althorp (32). Louis is an actor, while his sisters enjoy successful modeling careers and societal recognition.

Lady Kitty studied in South Africa, Italy, and England, and has been married to multimillionaire Michael Lewis (67) for five years. They welcomed their first child in 2023. Eliza is also studying in South Africa and is engaged to businessman Channing Millerd. Frequently seen with Amelia on red carpets, Eliza has forged her own reputation in the fashion world. Amelia, who wed Greg Mallett in 2023, met him while studying in Cape Town.

The parents of the four eldest Spencer children divorced in 1997 after eight years of marriage. Charles Spencer married Caroline Freud in 2001, fathering two more children: Edmund Spencer (22), a DJ, and Lady Lara Spencer (20). After separating from Caroline in 2007, he later wedded Karen Gordon (54) in 2011; they share daughter Lady Charlotte Diana Spencer (13). Their separation occurred in 2024, followed by a new marriage to Cat Jarman (44) in May 2026.
