Julian Weber showed a strong performance at the eighth stop of the Diamond League. The javelin thrower from Mainz was second in Paris behind Tokyo Olympic champion Neraj Chopra (India).
Weber threw his best width of the evening in the first attempt at 87.88 meters. Only Chopra was better on Friday (June 20, 2025), who also achieved its top width with his first throw in the competition. His spear flew to 88.16 m.
Weber underpinned its good shape in the World Cup year with his podium. At the third Diamond League station in Doha (Katar), he had achieved a personal best in mid-May with 91.06 m and broke the 90-meter sound wall for the first time.
3000 m obstacle: Meyer Stark, Krause sixth
In the top -class field over 3000 meters of obstacle, Lea Meyer (Leverkusen) finished sixth and missed her personal best by 53 hundredths of a second in 9: 09.73 minutes.
Gesa Felicitas Krause (Trier) was tenth (9: 28.75). At her start to the season on the track, Krause fell at the meeting in Oslo a week ago and could not end the race.
Faith Cherotich (Kenya) won in Paris in the world’s best time of 8: 53.37 minutes just ahead of Peruth Chemutai (Uganda/8: 54.41).
Steinacker, Honsel and Hess without chance on the pedestal
Marike Steinacker (Leverkusen) only took ninth place in the discus competition with 60.65 m. It won Olympic champion Valarie Allman (USA), who threw 67.56 m in the last attempt by the competition and was still in first place from third place.
In the triple jump, Max Heß (Chemnitz) took sixth place with 16.85 m. Jamaican Jordan Scott (17.27 m) jumped the most.
Christina Honsel (Bochum) became seventh in the high jump (1.88 m). Nicola Olyslagers (Australia) secured first place with 2.00 meters.
Records tumble over 1500 meters
The loudest jubilation was among the almost 20,000 spectators in the almost sold out Stade Charléty at the 1500-meter race of the men, which did not bring them into the Diamond League rating, but outstanding times.
Local hero Azeddine Habz ran in 3: 27.49 minutes of French record. The Kenyan Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech Koech improved the U20 world record (3: 27.49). The Dutchman Stefan Nillessen, Belgian Ruben Verheyden and the South African Tshepo Tshite also performed a national best.
