The top light athletes compete in Rome at the fifth stop of the Diamond League. At the start, the German discus throws Marike Steinacker and Kristin Pudenz missed a place on the podium and came up with ranks five and seven.

Olympic champion Valarie Allman from the USA confidently won the Stadio Olimpico. In the fifth attempt at 69.21 meters, the 30-year-old improved the seven-year-old meeting record of Croatin Sandra Perkovic (68.93 m) and in the end had a clear lead over the second-placed Yaimé Pérez from Cuba, which came to 66.63 m. Third place went to Jorinde van Klinken (Netherlands/65.77).

In the third attempt, Steinacker (Leverkusen) achieved their top width: 64.78 m meant personal best of the season and were enough for fifth place. Pudenz (Potsdam) threw 64.12 m and came to seventh place.
