Rabat seems to suit Frederik Ruppert. The hurdler set his next record at the Diamond League in Morocco.
A year ago Ruppert ran a German record in Rabat, and now he has even beaten the European record. In 7:57.80 minutes he became the first European to stay under the eight-minute sound barrier on this route.
Ruppert was only beaten by double Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali from Morocco, who set a new world record for the year (7:57.25). “It’s a great feeling when all this hard work finally pays off”said Ruppert.
Röhler comes fourth in his comeback
Javelin thrower Thomas Röhler celebrated his comeback on the big meeting stage after seven years. His 81.61 meters in the first attempt was enough for fourth place. The 34-year-old Röhler last took part in a Diamond League meeting in Zurich in 2019. At that time, long-term injury problems began, which repeatedly slowed down the 2016 Olympic champion.
Things didn’t go quite so well for the German women, however. High jumper Imke Onnen failed three times at 1.83 meters and finished last in the competition.
