There could be delayed deliveries of letters and parcels in Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony this week.

With a 24-hour strike, the DPVKOM union wants to put pressure on Deutsche Post in the 2025 pay round. In addition to the linear wage increase of at least 8 percent, the union is demanding a minimum increase in monthly wages of 350 euros for a period of 12 months. Around 170,000 postal employees are expected to benefit from this.

The strike begins on Tuesday morning (7:00 a.m.). The parcel and letter center in Osterweddingen (Börde district), the transport area and several delivery points in the Magdeburg branch are affected. According to the information, this also includes the areas of Braunschweig, Wolfsburg and the Harz. “As a result, up to 30,000 parcels and letters are not delivered or transported in these areas,” said a statement from DPVKOM. In the afternoon (2 p.m.) a strike rally will take place in front of the parcel center in Osterweddingen.

It’s also about vacation pay

In addition to the linear wage increase, the employees are demanding the payment of holiday pay equal to one month’s salary. “The collective bargaining demands are fully justified as the company continues to do very well economically,” said the union. The postal service will only solve its serious personnel problems if it pays employees significantly higher wages.

“A starting salary of around 2,700 euros gross for delivery workers is far too low given the tough working conditions in delivery,” it said. The employees in the parcel and letter centers also deserve higher pay and the physically demanding work should be better valued financially.

The DHL share temporarily lost 0.35 percent to 34.09 euros via XETRA.
