The team of national coach Markus Gaugisch has no problems with an underdog – and is therefore already in the next round.

Germany’s handball players also won the second game at the home World Cup and thus secured their ticket to the main round early. The team of national coach Markus Gaugisch defeated the blatant outsiders Uruguay with 38:12 (15:7) without any danger and is now playing for group victory in preliminary group C.

The best German thrower in front of 5,527 spectators in the once again sold-out Porsche Arena in Stuttgart were Nieke Kühne and Nina Engel with seven goals each. At the start of the tournament, the German team won against Iceland (32:25).

With 4-0 points, the selection of the German Handball Federation (DHB) is now about taking as many points as possible into the main round on Sunday against Serbia (6 p.m.). This starts next week in Dortmund, where the route should lead to the quarter-finals. The association’s goal is the first medal since the 2007 World Cup bronze.
