So close and yet lost. Andy Wolf, Juri Knoff and the stupid feeling of watching the others party.
And yet you can see that we are closer than we were at the Olympics a year and a half ago. And that’s why we’re very, very proud of the silver medal, of the path that led us to the final.
But not everyone can be happy about silver after the game.
Maybe sometime, maybe tomorrow, maybe in a few hours. But now the disappointment predominates. Yeah, it feels pretty shitty, I have to be honest.
Because the performance is right in the final. The German team was on equal terms with the Danes for a long time. First setback: The red card for Tom Kießler. After this foul, we were two goals behind at the break. In the second half it was goalkeeper Andreas Wolff who kept the team in the game. Fans and national coaches cheered a total of 14 parades. In the final phase, even the best goalkeeper in the tournament is powerless. The Danes pull away and win a little too much with 34 to 27. Germany consoles itself with silver.
We wanted a different color, of course. I think we’ll be able to go in a few days. Looking back with two smiling eyes at what kind of tournament we played.
And that’s why I’m very, very proud of the team’s development. And that gives me more than the silver medal. We will learn lessons from this tournament and also from this final. And then even stronger. Compete at the World Cup next year and with our spectators behind us.
Applause for a team with a future. Also from the Chancellor, who traveled to Berlin for the final. And not the title, but at least the runner-up European champion Germany experienced.
