The start after the winter break has been delayed for four German clubs. It is now clear when the Bundesliga games will be rescheduled.
The German Football League (DFL) has rescheduled last Saturday’s Bundesliga games that were canceled due to weather. The games between FC St. Pauli and RB Leipzig as well as Werder Bremen and TSG Hoffenheim are scheduled to be rescheduled for January 27th (Tuesday, 8:30 p.m. in the t-online live ticker).
The matches on the 16th match day fell victim to storm “Elli”. The games had to be canceled due to the winter weather in the north and the associated safety risks in the stadiums. Since all four teams are not active in the European Cup, appointments were available during the week.
FC St. Pauli’s announcement last week stated that due to the heavy snowfall and snowdrifts, “the safety of the meeting place and the safe holding of the event in compliance with all operating regulations cannot be guaranteed.” St. Pauli President Oke Göttlich made it clear that the authorities had “expressly recommended a cancellation given the overall situation in Hamburg”.
Werder cited “significant slippery conditions in the circulation areas, spectator areas and traffic areas in the Weser Stadium as well as significant snow drifts in large parts of the stadium area” as the reason for the cancellation in Bremen. Based on the forecasts, it cannot be guaranteed “that a situation can be created at the start of the game that meets the safety requirements of a Bundesliga game.” In addition, slippery roads and disruptions in local and long-distance transport mean that the safe journey of stadium visitors cannot be guaranteed.
The football year for FC St. Pauli now begins on Wednesday (from 6.30 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online) at VfL Wolfsburg, RB Leipzig will receive SC Freiburg on the last matchday of the first half of the season, also on Wednesday (8.30 p.m.). Bremen will be guests at Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday (8.30 p.m.), Hoffenheim will face Borussia Mönchengladbach on Wednesday (8.30 p.m.).
