DFB teams should decide for themselves on bindings

Wearing the captain’s armband in black, red and gold is not compulsory for all teams in the German Football Association (DFB). The teams could decide for themselves which piece of fabric they want to use, the DFB said in response to a “SID” request on Thursday. The day before, it had been announced that the senior national team would again play with a armband in Germany colors on the way to the 2024 home European Championship.

The respective captain of the U21 selection also played with this last time. DFB captain Alexandra Popp, on the other hand, has worn a rainbow armband in recent games, which Manuel Neuer has also worn.

After the World Cup drama about the “One Love” armband, the new national team director Rudi Völler recommended moving away from the much-discussed sleeve sign. National coach Hansi Flick, DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and Neuer representative Joshua Kimmich agreed.

Which bandage Popp will wear at the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand (July 20th to August 20th) is still open. “We are looking for dialogue and will have a solution in time for the Women’s World Cup,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino recently.
