The “Sky Blues” continue to stumble through the start of the season of the Premier League. At Brighton & Hove, the Guardiola team is difficult. In the end, a German U21 international has his big appearance.
Manchester City had to accept the next damper in the Premier League – from a German perspective with a pleasant participation. U21 international Brajan Gruda scored the late winning goal for Brighton & Hove Albion in the 2-1 win against Pep Guardiola’s team.
Gruda, who was substituted by team manager Fabian Hürzeler after a good hour, made the decision in the 89th minute. The former Mainz prevailed against City defender Rayan Ait-Nouri in the penalty area and hit the empty goal. It was the first win of the season for Brighton.
Haaland City had previously taken the lead in the 34th minute. The hosts were compensated for by a penalty from James Milner (67th). Afterwards, Brighton repeatedly pushed the second goal – and were rewarded shortly before the end.
Niclas Füllkrug was also able to cheer for the first time in the English league. The national striker was in the starting eleven in the 3-0 win of West Ham United near Nottingham Forest and was replaced after around an hour. Jarrod Bowen (84th), Lucas Paqueta scored the goals for the Londoners by penalty (88th) and Callum Wilson (90.+1). West Ham had lost the first two league games.
