Melanie Leupolz is pregnant. Her current club, Chelsea FC, announced this in a press release. She will be supported by the club’s medical staff in the coming months and will continue to do light training.
Leupolz missed the European Championship
However, she will not play any more games for the Londoners for the rest of the season and is preparing for the “arrival of her new signing”, the statement said. Leupolz will also miss the European Championships in England this summer.
“I am very happy for Melly, because this is of course great news for her personally. For her, an exciting and wonderful new chapter in her life is about to begin, and I sincerely wish her all the best,” said national coach Martina Voss -Tecklenburg quoted in a statement from the DFB. “Of course it’s a bitter loss for us, especially with regard to the European Championship, but that’s not decisive in this situation, but the joy we share with her about her very personal happiness.”
Leupolz has been playing for Chelsea since 2020, was in the final of the Champions League with her club last season and only failed there at FC Barcelona. In the current season of the premier class, she failed with the Londoners in the group phase. She has had a number of successes with the national team, including winning the gold medal in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
