DFB star Lea Schüller secures a draw for FC Bayern

In the end it was a draw. After a memorable final phase, FC Bayern can continue to hope for progress in the Champions League.

Thanks to national striker Lea Schüller, Bayern Munich’s footballers kept their chance of reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Schüller scored twice in a turbulent final phase at AS Roma (87th minute/90th+6), the final score was 2:2 (0:1). Regardless of the result in the duel between Paris St. Germain and Ajax Amsterdam later on Wednesday evening (9 p.m./DAZN), Bayern will continue to play for progress in the tight Group C.

Valentina Giacinti (33rd) and Manuela Giugliano (90th+3) gave Rome the lead twice. Bayern will play their last group game on January 30th against Paris Saint-Germain. Last year they had failed in the quarter-finals against Arsenal FC.

Bayern are now without national player Magull

The duel in Rome was a difficult task for Munich. Five weeks ago, coach Alexander Straus’ team went into the winter break with three games without a win, during which long-time top performer Lina Magull left the club for Inter Milan.

The Munich team, with the recently injured star attacker Pernille Harder and also national player Klara Bühl in the starting line-up, tried to control the game. However, they hardly had any good chances to score, something that only changed late in a more active second half. Rome, who had managed a 2-2 draw in the first leg after Munich had taken a two-goal lead, largely concentrated on defending. Things got turbulent in the final phase – and Schüller saved her team.
