The game against FC Bayern turned into a debacle for RB Leipzig in terms of results. Even worse for the Saxons: a regular player was apparently seriously injured shortly before the end.
The guest appearance in Munich was one to forget for RB Leipzig. Coach Marco Rose’s team suffered a 5-1 defeat at FC Bayern and failed to move closer to the German record champions in the Bundesliga table. Even worse for Leipzig: defender Benjamin Henrichs may have been seriously injured.
What happened? Shortly before the end of the game, the German international got stuck on the lawn of Munich’s Allianz Arena without any contact with an opponent. Referee Daniel Siebert whistled the game off a short time later, but Henrichs first had to be treated on the field and then carried off the pitch. He put his hands over his face and was obviously in great pain.
According to “Bild”, the national player was taken to a hospital in Munich. The bitter suspicion: a torn Achilles tendon. Leipzig’s assistant coach and ex-Bayern professional Alexander Zickler also spoke of this possible diagnosis.
If Henrichs did indeed tear his Achilles tendon, he would probably be out for months. In the worst case scenario, he could be threatened with the end of the season. For international matches against Italy in March, national coach Julian Nagelsmann would definitely have to do without Henrichs if he tore his Achilles tendon.
The 27-year-old defender appeared in 15 league games for Leipzig this season and contributed two assists. He played in a total of nine further games in the Champions League and the DFB Cup.
