DFB shock: Kimmich lies bleeding on the ground

The captain of the German team has to accept a terrible hit. The game is briefly interrupted.
Shocking moment for the German national team and the DFB fans at the first international match of the year in Switzerland: team captain Joshua Kimmich suddenly lay bleeding on the pitch.
The 67th minute in St. Jakob-Park in Basel: Free kick for Switzerland in the German penalty area. The situation is of no use – because of an offensive foul by Swiss midfielder Johan Manzambi – who unfortunately hits the DFB captain in the face with his elbow in the hustle and bustle of the penalty area. Kimmich goes down with a nasty cut on his upper lip. He has to be treated directly on the pitch, referee Chris Kavanagh interrupts the game straight away. But it quickly becomes clear: Kimmich is not seriously injured and can continue playing.
After the game, the defensive player gave the all-clear: “Everything is okay for me, it was just an elbow,” explained Kimmich in an interview on RTL. And further: “It hurt for a moment, but now it’s okay again.” So there are no signs that he could miss the game on Monday in Stuttgart against Ghana (from 8:45 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online).
The game against Switzerland was the 107th international match for the team captain, who has been captain of the four-time world champions since Ilkay Gündoğan’s resignation from the DFB. So far, the FC Bayern top performer has scored ten goals for Germany.
In the all-time German international list, Kimmich is in tenth place and is now within one game of Jürgen Klinsmann. He has by far the most appearances among current national players.
