DFB professional Jamal Musiala wants to “play a big role in the team”

He could have played for England, but chose Germany. Jamal Musiala wants to play a good role with the DFB-Elf at the World Cup this year. And get more playing time than at the last European Championship.

Bayern professional Jamal Musiala has big ambitions in the national team. “I want to play a big role in the team. I can also do that as a helper,” said the 18-year-old from “Sport Bild”: “If it’s not enough for the starting eleven, then I’d be happy to play as a joker. A little more minutes than with at the European Championships last summer, it can be at the World Cup.”

Musiala: Nobody talks as much as Thomas Müller

Above all, the “defeat in the round of 16 against my second home England hurt me a lot because I was only substituted on in added time and was hardly allowed to help,” said Musiala: “Of course I was disappointed. But I know: my time in the Starting eleven will come.”

Thomas Müller in particular is currently playing in Musiala’s position for both Bayern and the national team. The teenager says about him with a laugh: “No one else in professional football can talk as much as Thomas. I’ve never played with someone like him. Thomas is an outstanding footballer and a guy that is second to none are.”

He doesn’t want to compare himself to the club legend of the record champions: “Should I then be allowed to play in his position, I’ll bring in a new, personal style.”

Before his DFB debut, Musiala decided against the English national team, for which he would have been eligible to play. England “definitely have the potential for big titles. But we as Germany want to make sure that this doesn’t happen,” emphasized Musiala.
