Bundesliga club 1. FC Köln have their eyes on the first quarter-finals of the cup for more than twelve years.
“We are the Bundesliga club, we are the favorites and that should be evident tomorrow. We want to get through at home,” said coach Steffen Baumgart ahead of Tuesday’s round of 16 against Hamburger SV.
Baumgart will make “a few changes” in the starting eleven against the second division team, even if he has been warned about the former Bundesliga Dino: “HSV is able to switch well. They play well from behind and create chances.”
After the surprising departure of defender Rafael Czichos, the Domstadt team are still looking for a new central defender.
“We are dealing with two or three candidates. Julian Chabot is one of the players we are thinking about,” Baumgart said of the German defender for the Italian first division club Sampdoria.
