At the DFB, Buttgereit specializes in standards, but for a long time he also took on other functions. Nagelsmann justified Schreuder’s additional commitment as follows: “We decided on him as an additional expert so that Mads Buttgereit can concentrate fully on the set-piece situations in training. We expect that set-pieces will be even more important at this World Cup. That’s why we want to focus more on them in training and preparation.”
Andreas Kronenberg also joined the DFB in the summer of 2021 and worked under Hansi Flick. He took over the position of goalkeeper coach from Andreas Köpke, who had ended his many years working together with national coach Jogi Löw.
When it comes to the goalkeeper question, Nagelsmann has a lot of trust in the goalkeeping coach Kronenberg. When it was not clear in the winter of 2024 who would become the new number one after Manuel Neuer’s resignation and Marc-André ter Stegen’s injury – Oliver Baumann or Alexander Nübel – Nagelsmann said at the time: “In the end, in this case, Krone, the goalkeeper coach, decides.”
He also gives his opinion and ultimately has “his hat on. If I have the impression that one is clearly better than the other, then the one who is better plays,” said Nagelsmann. However, if it happens that he “has the feeling that both are in a good mood and have the potential”, then he will follow Kronenberg’s advice.
