DFB against renewed lockdown

From the point of view of the German Football Association, the clubs would mostly not understand a renewed lockdown in amateur football due to the tense corona situation.

The two DFB Vice-Presidents Rainer Koch and Peter Peters as well as the Deputy General Secretary Heike Ullrich underlined this on Christmas Eve in their balance sheet for the year 2021.

The current head of the association referred to a corresponding survey and emphasized that, despite all the caution that was still required, organized football as an open-air sport with its hygiene concepts had shown that it was not a source of risk.

In addition, according to a survey, support for the DFB’s vaccination campaign is high, and the vaccination rate in football is higher than in the entire population in Germany.

The DFB and its regional associations would continue to work in the new year to ensure that all active players and spectators get vaccinated as far as possible.

Football a means of containing the pandemic

Football is helping to contain the pandemic thanks to its strong club structure and the ability to promote health through exercise, it said.

A new president will be elected at the DFB next year. Since the resignation of Fritz Keller, the association has been led on an interim basis by Koch and Peters. Peters wants to run for president at the extraordinary Bundestag on March 11, 2022.

In addition to the former head of the German Football League’s supervisory board, Bernd Neuendorf, head of the Mittelrhein association, also wants to stand for election as a representative of the state and regional associations.
