“I think an electric heater caused the fire,” says Daniël Veerhuis, father of the owner of the building. “It was probably left on. Maybe I should have turned it off.”
Veerhuis was working with his son to renovate the building. While he was on his way, he received a call informing him that the house was on fire. Ultimately, it was the neighbor who alerted the emergency services. “It’s strange to get to know your neighbors in this way,” says Veerhuis.
Little remains of housing
Little is left of the semi-detached houses. Yet the affected man remains combative. “I am in good spirits. What is here can no longer be preserved. Something new is coming, and perhaps that is for the better.”
