Dethroned titan Kahn praises “phenomenon” Neuer

311th Bundesliga win

Munich (dpa) – After this spectacular rescue act, Bayern’s former goalkeeper titan Oliver Kahn also had to congratulate Germany’s currently best keeper without envy on the next Bundesliga record.

FC Bayern’s 4-0 win over Union Berlin was Manuel Neuer’s 311th win in 460 league games – one more than Kahn’s long-standing best. “Manuel is a phenomenon,” enthused Kahn in the ZDF interview.

In his anthem to Neuer, today’s Bayern boss referred to a key scene in the game, when Neuer prevented the 1-1 with a mega reflex from a shot by Union defender Robin Knoche. “Recently he had an operation on his knee. And now he’s going to get something like that down there in an absolutely world-class manner,” said the amazed grandstand viewer Kahn: “He’s very important when he’s a leader is on the pitch.”

Julian Nagelsmann spoke of a “fabulous record”, also in comparison to the games played. “It’s extraordinary,” said the Bayern coach. And with 311 victories, it is guaranteed not to stay. The 35-year-old Neuer is not thinking about ending his career anytime soon.

“I think he’s far from finished with this number,” commented Nagelsmann. Incidentally, it was Neuer’s 212th game without conceding a goal. Kahn also held the record ahead of him (196 white vests).
