The man, Alaouidi Djabrailov, is serving a 40-month sentence in Bruges prison for theft with violence. He was taken to hospital on Friday June 5 for a medical procedure.
According to investigators, he threatened the guards present with a sharp object during a change of clothes. As a result, they would have had to hand over the keys to his handcuffs. Shortly afterwards the man was able to escape from the hospital. Since then there has been no trace of him.
