Despite serious injuries – Italy’s ski star Goggia plans to start at the Olympics – Olympia

That was unthinkable two weeks ago: According to the Italian association, Sofia Goggia wants to make her comeback at the Olympics in Beijing. The gold favorite injured her knee badly at the Super-G in Cortina two weeks ago.

Goggia back in training

“I got a private video from Sofia Goggia: she’s ready, she’s coming back”said Giovanni Malagò, head of the National Olympic Committee, on Friday after the opening ceremony. “Goose bumps”the athlete wrote on Instagram in the evening and announced: “Today I got back on skis for the first time and I don’t know what to say. Soon: Olympic Games in China.”

The 2018 gold medalist in Pyeongchang sprained her ankle in the Super-G on January 23 in Cortina d’Ampezzo, tore her anterior cruciate ligament and suffered a small fracture in her fibula. She decided not to have an operation and instead hopes to get fit with physiotherapy.

Arrival on Monday – probably the first race on Friday

The plan seems to be working. The Super-G games are planned for February 11, followed by the downhill race four days later. Goggia is now scheduled to travel to China on Monday, Italian Olympic Committee President Giovanni Malago told Gazzetta dello Sport.
