Defending champion Gerwyn Price was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Darts World Cup in London’s Alexandra Palace. But that’s not the only sensation. Because before that, the “Iceman” threw a nine-o’clock in the fourth set. It was the third nine-o’clock at this World Cup – a new record. But the number one in the world was not rewarded. The top seeded Welshman lost 4: 5 in a high-class match to Englishman Michael Smith, who will meet his compatriot James Wade in the semifinals on Sunday.

Price and Smith gave each other nothing from the start, both shone with a high point average and were also confident on the double fields. In the fourth set, Price ecstatic “Ally Pally” when he checked nine perfect darts over double-12. Smith turned up in the decisive set and used his third match dart to win.

The “Bully Boy”, as Smith is called, had the fans on his side throughout the game. The polarizing Price had been booed several times and apparently also profusely insulted. Shortly before the end of the game, the “Iceman” asked a security guard to expel a fan of “Ally Pallys”.

The level of the game was not particularly affected by the incident and remained high despite the interruption – with the better ending for Smith. “This is one of the best nights of my career. I just kept my focus, that’s the reward for the last few years,” he said after the match.

With Gerwyn Price and previously Jonny Clayton, the “Bully Boy” has thrown out two top favorites for the title and is now going into the semi-finals as an easy favorite against compatriot Wade.
