It is often too transparent: humblebragging celebrities. False modesty that functions as a hidden boast. Jandino Asporaat also has a hand in it. He always visibly enjoys showing people how much success he has achieved, and that is probably because of his childhood dealing with poverty.
At the hairdresser
There was a time when Jandino was indispensable in the media, but that has become a lot less since his recent emigration to Curaçao. He is a little less active. “People here always say that you shouldn’t rush. And that’s true. Everything moves at a different pace here,” he says in the A.D.
As an example, the comedian mentions that he fell asleep at the hairdresser’s. “In the Netherlands they would wake you up as soon as your appointment is ready. Here they just leave you there. They said: leave him alone, he needs it. Then I was late for my next appointment.”
Basic Fit
Jandino will keep the family villa in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel for the time being. The comedian still regularly comes to our country and behaves like a very normal Dutch person, he emphasizes. “I just go to Lidl there. Or to Basic-Fit.”
That is actually not normal at all for people like him, Jandino wants to say. “People look at me like, why do you train here? Shouldn’t you go to a fancy gym? But I’m still the same guy.”
