Despite being outnumbered: Erzgebirge Aue deserves a home win against Lübeck

As of: January 27, 2024 7:00 p.m

The coolness of Marcel Bär, a great Martin Männel, the outstanding Mirnes Pepic and a lot of passion gave Erzgebirge Aue an absolutely deserved home win against VfB Lübeck.

FC Erzgebirge Aue has it Away defeat in Sandhausen forgotten and defeated VfB Lübeck 2-0 (1-0) on home turf in front of 6,219 spectators. Coach Pavel Dotchev’s team didn’t let itself be stopped by being outnumbered for more than 30 minutes – defender Korbinian Burger saw red in the second half after an emergency stop – and moved back into the top half of the table with 34 points.

Men wide awake – Jakob serves bear

Lübeck’s newly gained self-confidence was initially noticeable thanks to seven points from the previous three games. The Green-Whites started briskly and almost caught the FCE off guard after just 82 seconds. Anthony Barylla only gave Marius Hauptmann a guard, who moved to the baseline on the left and placed it in the back area, from where the advanced right-back Leon Sommer forced Aue keeper Martin Männel to make a brilliant reflex at the near post.

But the violets also found their way into the game shortly afterwards. Mirnes Pepic passed Omar Sijaric’s pass just wide to the left (5′). A little later, striker Marcel Bär had a little easier time – Pepic sent the striking Kilian Jakob deep in a transition, who crossed at the right moment so that Bär could score his tenth goal of the season from close range (14th).

Aue defender Linus Rosenlächer and his colleagues didn’t let Korbinian Burger’s sending off in the second half upset them.

Lübeck can’t think of anything after the Burger emergency brake

Lübeck, who had just been aggressive and courageous, then completely lost track. Aue wanted to take advantage and had a chance to score the second goal. Jakob sent a delicate cross from the left, but Boris Tashchy headed just over from full speed (25′). Shortly afterwards, VfB goalkeeper Philipp Klewin scratched a treacherous arc from Tim Danhof from the right corner (27th). Only after the restart and a triple substitution at the break should VfB actively take part in the game again.

In this VfB pressure phase, Robin Velasco missed the equalizer by centimeters after a good solo effort (53′). Taffertshofer’s volley from a tight angle didn’t miss much either (55′). Only 120 seconds later, Korbinian Burger was the last man to stumble on a back pass, Velasco splashed in between them and was then taken off his feet by the Auer central defender – sent off (57th). Was there now a threat of everything tipping over? On the contrary. The minutes passed, the FCE fought passionately, while the promoted team had almost nothing left to think of.

Mirnes Pepic made everything clear for Erzgebirge Aue from the penalty spot shortly before the end.

Pepic ice cold from the point

Instead, the hosts remained dangerous with pinpricks from the second row (Seitz 74′, 83’/Schikora 80′). With an ice-cold penalty (89th), the outstanding Pepic finally secured the three points. Joker Sean Seitz took the penalty in a duel with Sommer. In addition, the Dotchev team also had the luck of the good in stoppage time (Majetschak saved with his head/90th+3) and another reflex from Männel (90th+4) on their side.
