Simon Diesch and Anna Markfort won the silver medal at the 470 mixed World Cup in Gdynia in Poland.
After a convincing World Cup series and a gripping final, the German top duo only had to give up the Spanish defending champion Jordi Xammar HernĂ ndez with Marta Cardona AlcĂ ntara-with tied equality.
Taxman Diesch and Previous Markfort had started as the leader with two points ahead of the double medal race. The final crime thriller started with delay because the first two starting attempts had to be canceled due to rather light but strongly rotating winds.
Initially, things went well for the German duo in the final. “For a long time it looked very comfortable for us,” said Anna Markfort. But in the further course the Spaniards pushed over when the wind was rotating.
“There was no wind at all at the finish line,” reported Markfort. The best result of the joint career saw the duo with mixed feelings. “There were joy and melancholy tears at the same time,” said Markfort.
