The event opened with a short cutscene showing music equipment and Depeche Mode playing in the background. When the camera zooms out, the musicians can be seen in the studio. The line “We know we’ll be ghosts again” can be heard in the short clip. So it could be the title track as the theme fits with the title MEMENTO MORI (“Be Aware of Mortality”).

Martin Gore says of the album: “We started work on this project early in the pandemic and its themes were directly inspired by that time. After Fletch’s death we decided to continue because we’re sure that’s what he would have wanted and it really gave the project extra meaning.” Dave Gahan also explains: “Fletch would have loved this album. We are very much looking forward to sharing it with you soon and we can’t wait to present it live at shows next year.”
