Almost two months before the release of the new Depeche Mode album “Memento Mori”, the British DJ duo CamelPhat is making people sit up and take notice. Not only that the two musicians officially announced that they are working on a remix of the new Depeche Mode single. CamelPhat already let you hear an excerpt in their live set — reports the German fan site “depechemode.de

It is a remix of a Depeche Mode track with the working title “Ghosts Again” — the very song that Dave Gahan and Martin Gore presented a small excerpt of at their press conference on October 14, 2022 in Berlin. A Twitter user posted video of a CamelPhat performance in Toronto, where the group performed a snippet of “Ghosts Again” on January 21, 2023. It has not yet been officially confirmed whether the song will actually be called that – information on the track list of “Memento Mori” is not yet available.

You can listen to excerpts of the remix here:

In an Instagram story, the DJ duo gave another sneak peek — posting a photo of a mixer playing a track called “Depeche Mode V3” with a track length of 06:54 and a tempo of 125.

About Memento Mori

Memento Mori is the band’s first album since the death of founding member Andy Fletcher. Fletcher died unexpectedly on May 26, 2022 from an aortic dissection. Depeche Mode announced “Memento Mori” in early October 2023. According to the band, the Latin title (“Recognize Your Mortality”) was already in place before Fletcher’s death. “The title sounds very morbid, but you can also see it in a very positive way. Live the day to the fullest, that’s how we interpret it,” says Martin Gore.

Gore also states, “We started work on this project early in the pandemic, and its themes were directly inspired by that time. After Fletch’s death we decided to continue because we’re sure that’s what he would have wanted and it really gave the project extra meaning.” Dave Gahan adds, “Fletch would have loved this album. We are very much looking forward to sharing it with you soon and we can’t wait to present it live at shows next year.”

Memento Mori will be released on March 17, 2023.
