With the transfer of Denzel Dumfries to Real Madrid, the Dutchman finds himself in a rare list. Only eight Dutch people previously wore the Royal shirt. The Dutch right back will also be the first player in sixteen years to play for Real Madrid.

John Metgod (1982 – 1984)

John Metgod was the first Dutchman to play for Real Madrid. The central defender moved from AZ’67 to the Spanish capital in 1982. Metgod played fifty matches in two years and scored one goal.

Clarence Seedorf (1996 – 1999)

In 1996, Clarence Seedorf transferred to Real Madrid via Sampdoria. The midfielder won the national title (1997) and the Champions League (1998) during his time at the Bernabéu. Seedorf played 159 matches, in which he found the net twenty times.

Ruud van Nistelrooij (2006 – 2010)

After a very successful period at Manchester United, Real Madrid became the next station for Ruud van Nistelrooij. Statistics are also not important for the Royals: 64 goals in 96 matches. The striker won the national title twice and the Supercopa once.

Arjen Robben (2007 – 2009)

Arjen Robben came over from Chelsea in the summer of 2007 for a fee of 35 million euros. The phlegmatic left leg immediately won the national title in his first season. Another prize followed a year later with the Supercopa. Robben scored 13 goals and 15 assists in 65 matches.

Royston Drenthe 2007 – 2011)

After two seasons at Feyenoord, Royston Drenthe arrived at Real Madrid. The attacking left back played more than 30 games in his first two seasons, but the following year he made only ten appearances. That is why he was loaned to Hércules CF. The former Feyenoord player played 65 times at Real Madrid, scoring four times.

Wesley Sneijder (2007 – 2009)

In the summer of 2007, Real Madrid had 27 million euros for the Ajax midfielder. Wesley Sneijder made 66 appearances, 11 goals and 11 assists in two seasons. After the arrival of a new board and players such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaká, Sneijder left for Inter, where he won the Champions League.

Rafael van der Vaart (2008 – 2010)

Rafael van der Vaart switched from HSV to Real Madrid in 2008 for a sum of 15 million. During his period in Spanish service he did not become national champion, but he did win the cup. In 58 matches, Van der Vaart scored 11 goals and provided the same number of assists. The attacking midfielder was the last Dutchman to play for Real Madrid.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (2009 – 2009)

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s period at the Bernabéu was limited to six months. In the winter of 2009, the striker switched from Ajax to Real Madrid, before leaving for AC Milan in the summer. Huntelaar made twenty appearances for Madrid, scoring eight times.
