The controversial kiss that Luis Rubiales gave to Spanish player Jennifer Hermoso after the World Cup final is, according to some, seen in a different light now that a video has emerged from the team bus. It shows how the Spanish football players are mainly laughing about the whole incident. Is it really that bad, Dennis Weening wonders.

‘It exploded’

Dennis says at the Op1 talk show table that he is happy with it popping up from that video. “I have to say: I am actually a bit happy that this is coming out now. Well, just, otherwise it becomes another huge thing about men being so bad about the women… And then she was so victimized…”, he says.

He thinks we shouldn’t make it too big. “Maybe she was surprised and I don’t know exactly how it went, but the fact that those women can laugh about it themselves gives a little hope – no matter how bad it is – that it won’t become too big a thing. It has of course exploded so much in the media.”

Different daylight

Op1 presenter Carrie ten Napel: “Does it indeed put it in a different light? I mean, they were angry and this man is being pilloried every day.”

Dennis: “But is it really so? Maybe the ladies of football themselves later also thought: maybe it’s a bit exaggerated what the media makes of it now. I do not know. When I saw these images, I thought: okay, if these women themselves laugh about it a bit…”
