COPENHAGEN (dpa-AFX) – Denmark is giving Ukraine, which has been hit by the conflict with Russia, support amounting to the equivalent of around 22 million euros. The new aid program aims to strengthen the country’s resilience and ability to deal with the aftermath of the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine, the Danish Foreign Ministry said on Sunday. Since April 2014, Ukrainian government troops have been fighting Russia-backed separatists in Donbass. A peace plan from 2015, which was agreed under Franco-German mediation, is on hold.

And Ukraine is acutely threatened by Russia’s massive military deployment near the border, said Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod after a visit to the eastern Ukrainian conflict zone. There he saw with his own eyes how badly the conflict had hit the Ukrainian people. The Ukrainian people should know that they are not alone in their struggle for sovereignty and independence. Russia called on Kofod via Twitter to de-escalate the situation./trs/DP/he
