Demolition of the Axell Logistics building starts after a devastating fire

The demolition of the Axell Logistics building on Hermelijnweg in Etten-Leur, which went up in flames on Monday, started on Tuesday morning. A spokeswoman for the security region reports this. Firefighters spent hours extinguishing the blaze on Monday. The fire brigade is still present on the site with three vehicles on Tuesday morning.

The fire at the international transport company on the Vosdonk business park broke out around half past nine in the morning. Initially, a meter box fire was reported to the fire brigade. But the fire brigade quickly scaled up, because of the presence of a lot of PET bottles on the site and the size of the building.

Three people in the building
Thick, jet-black clouds of smoke passed over the area for hours and could be seen as far as South Holland. Fire trucks came to Etten-Leur from all over the region. Due to the seriousness of the situation, two NL-Alerts were sent and several houses on Hoevenseweg were evacuated as a precaution. They were in smoke.

At the time the fire at Axell Logistics was discovered, three people were in the building. According to a spokesperson for the security region, they were able to flee in time.

‘Fire started in a small corner’
“The fire started in a small corner, but soon raged throughout the building,” said a 112 correspondent. Early in the morning he saw bulkheads falling from the side of the building. In the afternoon part of the building collapsed.

Several cars were parked near the building. They drove the people present away with true contempt for death the moment the fire started to spread.

The fire attracted a lot of attention.

Due to the fire, the N640 from Etten-Leur in the direction of Oudenbosch was closed for hours between the industrial area Vosdonk and Hoeven.
