The number of long-term unemployed people in Flanders has increased by fifteen percent in the past year. This was evident from figures that CD&V representative Robrecht Bothuyne had requested from Minister of Labor Zuhal Demir (N-VA). Bothuyne then sounded the alarm, but the Demir cabinet provided nuance. “Of the 7,678 long-term unemployed who have been added, only 409 receive unemployment benefits. That is an increase of 1 percent.”
