Deloitte: Sales in the top 5 leagues in Europe are increasing again slightly

Premier League ahead

Sales in the five most important football leagues in Europe have increased slightly again, but have not yet reached the level of the pre-Corona period. This emerges from the 31st edition of the “Annual Review of Football Finance”, which the accounting and consulting firm “Deloitte” published on Thursday.

In the 2020/21 season, revenues in the Bundesliga, the English Premier League, the Spanish LaLiga, Serie A in Italy and Ligue 1 in France increased slightly by three percent compared to the previous season from a total of 15.1 to 15 .6 billion euros. In 2018/2019, the total turnover of Europe’s “Big Five” was still at the record level of 17 million euros.

Bundesliga revenue fell due to a 94 percent drop in matchday revenue. The reason for this was the viewer exclusion due to the pandemic. The clubs generated around 3 billion euros in the 2020/2021 season, which was 203 million euros (minus 6 percent) less than in the previous season. With 5.5 billion euros, the Premier League is still the financially strongest league. The Bundesliga (€3bn) follows just ahead of La Liga (€2.9bn), Serie A (€2.5bn) and Ligue 1 (€1.6bn).
