After the swine fever crisis at the end of the 1990s, the Netherlands wanted to tackle problems in pig farming energetically and comprehensively. But there was a lack of decisiveness, warns Gerrit Brummelman, who contributed to the so-called Reconstruction Act. ‘If we had persevered then, a large part of the farmers’ current problem would not have been addressed.’
