The Eisbären Berlin celebrated another victory after four defeats in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).
Thanks to a convincing performance, the German champions beat the Nuremberg Ice Tigers 5:2 (2:0, 2:1, 1:1). Liam Kirk scored two goals, and Lester Lancaster, Frederik Tiffels and Jean-Sébastien Dea also scored for the capital.
Liam Kirk scores twice
In front of 14,200 spectators in the sold-out arena at Ostbahnhof, the home team started confidently despite their recent failures. Lancaster scored in the fourth minute of the game after a remarkable counterattack, Kirk (7th) extended the lead in Berlin’s first power play.
In what was at times a heated encounter, the guests also had their first chances, but the Berliners remained efficient. In the second third, Tiffels (23rd) successfully completed a solo effort, Dea (35th) increased the score to 4-0.
Thanks to a power-play goal from Evan Barratt (37th), the Nuremberg team came close again, but Kirk (45th) restored the old gap with his second goal in the final period. The Eisbären then had the game confidently under control, and the late goal from Nuremberg’s Greg Meireles (55th) didn’t change anything.
