DEG for months without seriously injured O’Donnell

The Düsseldorfer EG has to do without striker Brendan O’Donnell in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) for a few months.

The 30-year-old Canadian’s right Achilles tendon was severed with a skate blade in a duel in Friday’s game in Nuremberg. O’Donnell was already operated on Saturday in Nuremberg.

“It’s very bitter for Brendan and the team and hits us hard,” said DEG sports director Niki Mondt. According to Mondt, it should be decided in the coming days how and whether the Düsseldorf team will react to the loss of their striker.

Last season, O’Donnell was DEG’s top scorer.
