Minister of Defense Ruben Brekelmans today received the report from the Sorgdrager Commission. This investigative committee examined how it could happen that civilian casualties were caused by the Dutch deployment of weapons in Hawija in 2015.

The committee also conducted research into what lessons can be learned for the future. The independent members were led by Minister of State Winnie Sorgdrager.

The findings were shared with the House of Representatives today. The Cabinet will provide an extensive Cabinet response at a later date.

Started in 2020

The independent investigation was started in 2020 at the request of the House of Representatives. This happened in response to a Dutch air strike against ISIS. This resulted in many civilian casualties.
