Marco Borsato allegedly had an underage girl between 2014 and 2015 repeatedly assaulted. He allegedly groped her buttocks, breasts and vagina, both above and under her clothing. Her mother was chairman of his fan club for more than twenty years and had a close bond with the singer, who often visited the family.
The victim saw him as her ‘godfather’ and therefore did not wish him a prison sentence. She is also not demanding any compensation from him, her lawyer Peter Plasman said during the first hearing last Tuesday. She says she only wants ‘recognition for what he did to her.’ The Public Prosecution Service demanded five months’ unconditional prison sentence on Tuesday.
According to his lawyers Geert-Jan and Carry Knoops, the statements of the victim and mother are inconsistent and therefore unreliable. Over the years, the now 26-year-old woman is said to have told four different versions, which became increasingly serious in tone, ANP reports.
Practice reporting with a crime journalist
All arrows are aimed at the victim’s mother, who is said to have wanted revenge. After he criticized her role as chairman, she allegedly incited her daughter to accuse the singer. The mother would have wanted to sell the story to various journalists. According to the defense, crime journalist John Van den Heuvel influenced the victim. He allegedly told her that there were other victims and practiced reporting the crime with her. Moreover, the Public Prosecution Service allegedly had ‘tunnel vision.’
