The security of military objects is again insufficient. The Court of Audit (AR) writes this in a report published today. Defense takes the conclusions seriously and has taken further steps to improve security. For example, additional information meetings and training programs have been created and extra security guards are recruited.
Security defects came to light, among other things, due to the use of Defense test teams. These are employees who managed to penetrate defense locations, while they had no permission for it. This mainly succeeded in locations with outdated real estate. In addition, the AR concludes that the security awareness and behavior of defense staff has not improved last year, an essential part of security.
Safety risks
Defense staff are sometimes helpful and too good of trust towards strangers. As a result, unauthorized persons could gain access to the (strictly) protected military objects. This can lead to security risks. With increasing threat, improving security has a high priority.
For example, several awareness initiatives and programs were started last year. These are further developed and expanded within all defense components. This includes e-learning, information meetings and training programs. DBBO security organization has also been expanded with extra security guards.
In addition, in 2024, the Ministry of Defense conducted extensive research into the cause of the security problems of military objects. An improvement plan was drawn up on this basis on this basis. As part of this, a behavioral campaign is being made, extra practical tests are planned and extra security measures have been taken.
Increased alert state
Since this month the so -called ‘alert state’ has been increased. This went from the first to the second level (A to A+) on a scale of 6 levels. Defense personnel are asked to pay extra attention and to report suspicious situations immediately. In terms of content, Defense does not provide further information about security measures as usual.
