The cabinet Aast at the barracks in Budel for military use, while a large number of asylum seekers are still being taken care of there. Parties in the city council suggested in July last that the Ministry of Defense might also return to this location. The newspaper Writes that Defense needs more space, so that the contract with the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) may not be extended. A maximum of 1500 asylum seekers are taken care of in the former Nassau-Dietzkazerne in Budel.
The location in Budel is the largest asylum seekers’ center in the country after Ter Apel and is of great importance for the reception of asylum migrants, because the number of places is already scarce. But now that Defense in an increasingly insecure world around us needs more space to expand and practice, according to insiders, the cabinet is looking for the former Nassau-Dietz barracks in Budel, where a maximum of 1500 asylum seekers can be taken care of.
Years of nuisance
In cabinet circles, the defense actually wants to take back the barracks from 2028. The COA contract would therefore not be extended, it sounds. The final decision on this must be made in May.
Residents, entrepreneurs and the Cranendonck municipality have been experiencing nuisance for years by residents of the location in Budel. At the beginning of July, the Cranendonck city council met about a new agreement between the COA and the municipality. It was agreed that the asylum seekers center in Budel would become smaller. For example, the number of residents had to go from 1500 to 960.

A number of parties in the city council already indicated that they might also be able to get rid of the AZC in a different way. At that time they suggested that possible defense would take the barracks back into use.
