With an impressive performance, the New York Knicks brought an abrupt end to the NBA title dreams of the record champion Boston Celtics. In game six of the quarter -final series, the team from the Big Apple gave the stricken previous year no chance and clearly won 119: 81. With this, the Knicks won the fourth victory of the series and for the first time in 25 years are in the final of the Eastern Conference. Opponents from Wednesday (local time) are the Indiana Pacers.
The game in Madison Square Garden at home was already decided at the break. With an outstanding second quarter, the Knicks settled early and won this section of the game with 38:17. Knicks playmaker Jalen Brunson recalled his father Rick, who stood in the Conference final with New York in 2000 in 2000. It is “great” that the team has now come back for the first time. That means a lot to the club and the city, emphasized the Point Guard.
Head coach Tom Thibodeau praised his team for his appearance: The Knicks had played “great from the start to finish”. Boston is a strong team both offensive and defensively who do nothing. “You have to earn it. And I think we did it,” said Thibodeau.
Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla in turn seemed disappointed. He made it clear: “Ultimately, we set ourselves a goal and did not achieve it.”
