Defender Halstenberg extended at RB Leipzig

Leipzig (AP) – Defender Marcel Halstenberg stays with RB Leipzig.

The 30-year-old signed a new two-year contract with the Saxon DFB Cup winners until June 30, 2024. Halstenberg has been playing for the Bundesliga club since August 2015, when he came from FC St. Pauli.

“I am very happy that my sporting future has now been clarified and that it is still in Leipzig,” said the nine-time national player: “Especially last year, when I had to deal with private strokes of fate and struggled with injuries for a long time, everyone is closed stood behind me one hundred percent and signaled to me that RB Leipzig would continue to count on me in the future.”

Halstenberg rose through the ranks with RB after arriving seven years ago and is an important part of the squad. He has made 200 competitive appearances for the club and scored 14 goals, while Halstenberg prepared 23 goals.

After a cruciate ligament rupture in January 2018, however, he had to fight his way back last season. A capsule injury in August 2021 forced him to take a break until February.
