Defeats for FC Bayern and Alba Berlin

The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich lost their comeback game after the compulsory Corona break, but suddenly still have the best chance of making it into the quarter-finals of the EuroLeague.

In their first game in two weeks, Bayern lost 67-80 (35-42) at Panathinaikos Athens on Tuesday.

However, since the league finally took the Russian teams out of the competition a few hours before the ball and canceled their duels, the Munich team are now one of the eight teams that would make it to the play-offs as things stand at present.

“The situation in Ukraine has not improved,” said the EuroLeague, which had previously suspended CSKA Moscow, UNICS Kazan and Zenit St. Petersburg.

15 teams remain including Bayern, who benefit heavily, and Alba Berlin. The champion and cup winner lost 79:95 (39:47) against FC Barcelona on Tuesday. Alba is currently 12th.

The regulation as a result of the war of aggression against Ukraine also applies to the lower-class EuroCup, in which the Hamburg Towers have secured the round of 16 due to the exclusion of Kuban Krasnodar.
