Alexander Merkx was eliminated by Chris Dobey at the Darts World Cup in London. The 30-year-old darts player from Hapert had to admit his superiority to the Englishman at Alexandra Palace, the score was 3-1.
On Friday, Merkx (number 214 in the world rankings) surprisingly won 3-0 against Stephen Burton. He did not do that with a high average. That was slightly better in his match against Dobey, but it turned out not to be enough to make things difficult for the Englishman.
Dobey started strongly and only allowed Merkx one leg in the first two sets. Merkx seemed to be preparing for a comeback by winning four legs in a row, but Dobey was alert in time to repel Merkx’s attack.

“I started to believe in it for a while, but then he threw out 122,” Merkx analyzed the game afterwards at NOS. “Then it becomes difficult. Dobey is simply an A-player.”
Merkx indicated that he is satisfied with his World Cup debut, although he does not find it very annoying that he can go home. “I just bought a new house with my girlfriend and there is quite a bit involved.”
