The former champion writes for us “It’s a shame that it’s over, but the legacy of the Olympics will not be squandered”
A great journey ended on Sunday. My staff, the athletes and the whole country. From when I lit the brazier in Milan with Alberto Tomba in the opening ceremony until the closing party in Verona, which still saw me involved in some way thanks to that fun initial film, I found myself moving from one competition venue to another, experiencing continuous and very strong emotions. I was in Bormio for the downhill which brought our first medals, with Franzoni and Paris, then I went to Milan, where I saw Daniel Grassl’s beautiful fourth place in figure skating, then I rushed to Cortina for Federica Brignone’s beautiful first super-G medal. From there I continued to travel, becoming a little passionate about all the competitions, from the cross country of a great Federico Pellegrino, capable of giving his all at the end of his career, up to the biathlon of a super Lisa Vittozzi, from the feat of Michela Moioli to the surprising gold medals of the luge, up to the last strokes of the ski cross and without forgetting two great women like Arianna Fontana and Francesca Lollobrigida and the beautiful medal of Lucia Dalmasso. It seems important to me to have achieved podiums in many different disciplines, but I’m not just talking about a competitive perspective.
