As the US industry magazine “Deadline” reports, the actress and the Blondie frontwoman are taking on central roles in the planned comedy “Maitreya”.
What will we see on the big screen?
Anderson plays the titular character Maitreya, an up-and-coming figure within a New Age healing community. The action begins when she wants to travel to India for a conference. Shortly beforehand, however, she receives a call from her dying father. Instead of canceling the trip, Maitreya apparently decides to take her entire family with her in order to put her spiritual approaches into practice. At the same time, she is supposed to secretly collect material for a new book.
And Debbie Harry? She takes on the role of Barbara, Maitreya’s mother.
Successful names behind the production
“Maitreya” is produced by Studio Caviar, which, among other things, is behind the award-winning drama “Sound of Metal”. Directed by Jonathan Krisel, who is best known for the comedy series “Portlandia”.
The screenplay is by Samuel D. Hunter. The author received a BAFTA nomination for his work on The Whale. There is currently no further casting news to report.
