Debbie Harry and Nick Cave pay tribute to Jeffrey Lee Pierce with a duet

Debbie Harry and Nick Cave have released a song together. The ex-Blondie singer (Heart Of Glass) and Australian singer-songwriter (Where The Wild Roses Grow) co-authored the song “On the Other Side” for the compilation The Task Has Overwhelmed Us. The song collection is a tribute to musician Jeffrey Lee Pierce.

The Task Has Overwhelmed Us is the fourth and final release from the Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project. The compilation series brings together former companions and admirers of the singer-songwriter, who died in 1996 as a result of a brain hemorrhage. Among other things, Pierce was the founder of the band The Gun Club, for which Debbie Harry sang backup vocals on a number of tracks. Jeffrey Lee Pierce’s friendship with Nick Cave was formed through guitarist Kid Congo Powers, who played for The Gun Club and Cave’s band The Bad Seeds.

The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project began after previously unreleased and unfinished recordings of the singer were found in Pierce’s estate. Over the years, various artists have taken on the challenge of completing Pierce’s work in his spirit. These included Iggy Pop or the 2022 different Screeming Trees singer Mark Lanegan, who was represented on the second release “The Journey Is Long”. The finale of the series features Debbie Harry and Nick Cave alongside other well-known artists such as Dave Gahan, who is currently touring with his band Depeche Mode.

The Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project “The Task Has Overwhelmed Us” will be available on vinyl, CD and digital on September 29th Glitterhouse Records to be available.
