Death toll rises to more than 1,500 after heavy floods in Pakistan | Abroad

Although water levels are now declining in some areas, authorities are concerned that heavy rainfall in parts of neighboring India could cause rivers in Pakistan to overflow. So far that has not been the case. The provincial emergency response authority has advised residents of some areas to be evacuated.

The floods in Pakistan have so far caused almost 30 million euros in damage. 33 million inhabitants have been affected by the monsoon rains. The office of Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says it expects the flooding in some of the areas to be over within two to three weeks. However, it could be another three months before no area is flooded anymore.
