Deadly accident Tilburg: fourth man arrested

The fourth occupant of the car that was involved in a fatal accident on the Besterdring in Tilburg on Monday evening has also reported to the police. The suspect is a 30-year-old man of no fixed abode, police said.

Earlier, two Tilburgers (17 and 22) and a 22-year-old Rotterdammer were arrested on suspicion of their involvement. The Tilburgers were allowed to go home on Tuesday afternoon, but they remain suspects.

The man from Rotterdam was probably behind the wheel of the car that hit a 66-year-old man. The Tilburger was walking his dog at that time. According to witnesses, the car drove on the wrong side of the road and the victim was dragged several tens of meters. Emergency services tried to resuscitate the victim, but to no avail.

Flight
The suspects fled after the accident. Based on witness statements, the car was found a little later on Bisschop Sonniusstraat. The occupants then fled to a sandwich shop on the Veldhovenring, where the two Tilburg residents were arrested. The Rotterdammer reported to the office around half past two in the morning.

The police investigation into the fatal accident is ongoing. The victim’s dog was unharmed.

Road is being adjusted
Many residents and entrepreneurs of the Besterdring in Tilburg have been complaining for years about the speed at which some motorists drive through their neighbourhood. Especially in the evening it is often hit and the squeaking tires and roaring engines cause a lot of nuisance. The Besterdring will be a 30 kilometer road, preparations for this will start this year. The road will not be ready until 2025.
